Comparison of Macular Thickness Measurements between Time Domain and Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography
iovs.org (Oct 28 2008) Ophthalmology Explore Article
Macular thickness measurements obtained from spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) were significantly greater than those obtained from time domain OCT because of the more posteriorly located retinal boundary (RPE in 3D OCT versus the inner and outer segment photoreceptor interface in Stratus OCT). Lower measurement variability was observed in spectral domain OCT. Clinicians should be aware of the measurement differences between the two instruments. (Read Full Article)

Longitudinal Variability of Optic Disc and Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Measurements
iovs.org (Oct 28 2008) Ophthalmology Explore Article
PURPOSE. To evaluate the longitudinal variability of optic disc and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) measurements obtained from optical coherence tomography (OCT), scanning laser polarimetry (SLP), and confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (CSLO). METHODS. Forty-five normal and 43 glaucomatous eyes of 88 subjects were analyzed in this longitudinal study. RNFL thickness was measured by OCT (StatusOCT; Carl Zeiss Meditec, Dublin, CA) and SLP (GDx VCC; Carl Zeiss Meditec). Neuroretinal rim area ... (Read Full Article)

Quantitative Assessment of Lens Opacities with Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography
BJO Online (Oct 5 2008) Ophthalmology Explore Article
Purpose: To evaluate the reliability of lens density measurement with anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) and its association with the Lens Opacity Classification System Version III (LOCS III) grading. Methods: Fifty-five eyes from 55 age-related cataract patients were included. One eye from each subject was selected at random for lens evaluation. After dilation, lens photographs were taken with a slit lamp and graded against the LOCS III standardized condition. ... (Read Full Article)

Effects of scan circle displacement in optical coherence tomography retinal nerve fibre layer thickness measurement: a RNFL modelling study
Nature Publishing Group (Sep 18 2008) Ophthalmology Explore Article
Objective To study the effect of optical coherence tomography (OCT) scan circle displacement on retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) measurement errors using cubic spline models. Methods Forty-nine normal subjects were included in the analysis. In one randomly selected eye in each subject, RNFL thickness around the optic disc was measured by taking 16 circular scans of different sizes (scan radius ranged from 1 to 2.5 mm). The RNFL profile in ... (Read Full Article)

Relationship between Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Measurement and Signal Strength in Optical Coherence Tomography
OphSource (Aug 1 2008) Ophthalmology Explore Article
Purpose To examine the relationship between signal strength and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT). Design Observational cross-sectional study. Participants Forty normal subjects were recruited. Methods Retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness was measured by Stratus OCT (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Dublin, CA). In each eye, the focusing knob was adjusted to obtain 6 images with different signal strengths ranging from 5 to 10. The ... (Read Full Article)

Anterior Chamber Angle Measurement with Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography: A Comparison between Slit Lamp OCT and Visante OCT
iovs.org (Jul 25 2008) Ophthalmology Explore Article
PURPOSE. To compare anterior chamber angle measurements obtained from two anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) instruments and to evaluate their agreements and interobserver reproducibility. METHODS. Forty-nine eyes from 49 healthy normal subjects were studied. The anterior chamber angle was imaged with the Visante anterior segment OCT (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Dublin, CA) and the slit lamp OCT (SLOCT, Heidelberg Engineering, GmbH, Dossenheim, Germany) on one randomly selected eye in each ... In vivo measurements of macular and nerve fibre layer thickness in retinal arterial occlusion
Nature Publishing Group (Jun 2 2006) Ophthalmology Explore Article
Aim To investigate the structure–function relationship in patients with retinal arterial occlusion by measuring the macular and the peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) thickness and the visual sensitivity. Methods This is an observational case series with three patients with central retinal arterial occlusion (CRAO) and two patients with branch retinal arterial occlusion (BRAO). The macular/peripapillary RNFL thickness and the visual field were measured with Stratus optical coherence tomography (OCT) ... (Read Full Article)
