About Nicolaus Copernicus University

Nicolaus Copernicus University (NCU) founded in Torun in 1945 is one of the biggest academic institutions in Poland with the total number of 14 divisions, 54 faculties and 40.000 students. The Medical Physics Group is part of the Institute of Physics of the Nicolaus Copernicus University. The Institute of Physics has a long research tradition of excellence in optics and spectroscopy started from its founder prof. Jablonski. New strategy of the University and the Institute promotes strongly the applied and multidisciplinary research such as the biomedical imaging. Recently the Medical Academy has jointed the University and became its part as Collegium Medicum. Therefore, it was possible to establish very close collaboration between the Medical Physics Group and the ophthalmology clinic at Collegium Medicum. The latter together with the support offered by experts in the basic optics and molecular spectroscopy from the Institute of Physics gives unique opportunity of development of the research group working on biomedical imaging. The Medical Physics Group started in 1999, consists presently 15 people and running 9 projects from the field of biomedical imaging.
